Toyota Unveils Urban Cruiser EBella, Its First Electric SUV for India (X)

New Delhi: Toyota has introduced its new electric SUV, the Urban Cruiser EBella, in India. This car is similar to Maruti Suzuki's e-Vitara in terms of technology and platform. Yet Toyota has made it its own by changing the design, cabin finish, and ownership benefits.

What new style of EBella is visible in the design?

The front part has been kept fast and aggressive. The closed grille and thin LED DRLs give the car the identity of an EV. The bumper is muscular. 18-inch alloy wheels and a large glass area are visible on the side. At the rear, there is a coupe-style silhouette and connected taillamps.

What is special about the interior?

The layout of the cabin is similar to that of the Vitara. The color scheme has been kept black and tan. There are dual screens and vertical vents on the dashboard. The rotary gear knob keeps the center console clean. The rear seats slide and recline. The emphasis is on convenience.

What things are included in the feature list?

A 10.25-inch touchscreen will be available. A digital instrument cluster is standard. Ventilated seats and a 10-way electric driver seat are provided. There are also features like JBL audio, ambient lighting, and a PM2.5 air filter. The UI is kept simple.

What does EBella offer in terms of safety?

Seven airbags are standard in the car. Level-2 ADAS has been provided. There is also a 360-degree camera and blind-spot monitor. ESC, ABS, and TPMS are present. Considering the NCAP rating of the Vitara, high safety is expected from EBella.

What options are available in powertrain and range?

Two battery options are provided. The 49 kWh pack gives 144 bhp. The 61 kWh pack delivers 174 bhp and a claimed 543 km range. The drivetrain is front-wheel drive. AWD is for the international market, not in the Indian model.

How are the charging options?

The battery charges in several hours with 7 kW AC. Time decreases with 11 kW AC. DC fast charge allows 10 to 80 percent charging in 45 minutes. DC facility will be necessary for top-ups and long drives.

What does Toyota offer in ownership?

The company offers an 8-year battery warranty. The option of BaaS, i.e., Battery-as-a-Service, will be available. An assurance of 60 percent buyback value after three years has also been given. This is an effort to reduce long-term concerns.

Who will EBella compete with in the market?

The segment is already crowded. There are rivals like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv, MG ZS EV, and Mahindra BE 6. Maruti e Vitara is a platform-share partner. Toyota would like to stand out on brand value and ownership benefits.

What benefits will customers see?

Customers will trust trusted brands. Service network and battery warranty factors are important. Everyday utility and a comfortable rear seat may appeal to young families.

What message does EBella convey overall?

The Toyota EBella is a practical and reliable entry in the segment. It doesn't boast much show or performance. Its focus is on usability and ease of long-term ownership. Buyers will now be able to make better comparisons with alternatives.
